After an interview or upon medical assistant externship completion it is common courtesy to send a follow-up and thank you letter. The thank you letter is a personalized message of your appreciation for any sort of consideration, attention, or opportunity you have received in response to your application. Even if you applied for a job electronically online, you can still send a thank you letter, or email, since you should always say thank you, even if you didn't get the job.
Thank You Letter Writing Tips
When writing your thank you letter after an interview remember to direct your message directly to the individual reading it-personalize your letter by saying "you" and "I" and double and triple check that your correspondent's name is spelled correctly. Remember that titles and names are always capitalized, such as Mr., Mrs. and Dr., so that you are beginning the salutation with Dear Mrs. Brown, or Dear Dr. Greene. Good words to use in your follow up thank you letter are:
Express appreciation, interest and desire in a succinct, professional manner. Just like in your resume and cover letter, present yourself as someone who is pleasant, courteous, honest, straightforward and motivated.
Keep your complementary close professional, such as:
And should we even mention this? Use high quality paper and sign your letter in ink and be sure to MAIL your letter, not fax it.
