VALID DOCUMENTATION OF KNOWLEDGE...
A multitude of uncertified healthcare professionals, which includes thousands of medical assistants from new graduates to experienced workers, are not fully aware of their responsibilities at their work place and the purpose and  benefits of being certified.

Today's job market is more selective and competitive than ever.  Many employer's malpractice insurance carriers may actually require that medical staff who works for them be certified by a national or private association.  Spurred by these latest trends and to better match the employer's needs more and more medical assistants seek certification. Employers want to ensure they are hiring the best possible candidates for their team. Without certification there is a good chance that applicants are facing disadvantages and barriers during the selection process over their certified counter parts.

WHY GET CERTIFIED?
Getting certified proves your commitment and dedication to your career and gives you the credibility and documentation needed for more responsibilities, larger projects, promotions and more pay. Experienced professionals may be considered for certification without having to sit for the certification exam. Many are a candidate for certification/registration based on education, employment and years of experience in the field.

CERTIFICATION AFTER THE MILITARY???
Documenting skills acquired in the military is also important! Nothing speaks louder than professional certification. Military trained personnel should document their skills for when they transition from the United States Armed Forces back to the "civilian world" to increase their chances of getting hired... especially those in medical technology professions, phlebotomy, medical assisting, dental assisting and medical office administration. We feel strongly that all skilled health service professionals deserve a chance to prove their skills and receive credit for their accomplishments through certification, including those who received their training and experience on the job!

ATTENTION:
Registration required in South Dakota. No person may practice as a medical assistant in South Dakota unless that person is registered with the Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners! The Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners shall register a medical assistant following the submission of an application by an applicant for registration who has graduated from an accredited school or a school which meets standards similar to an accredited school and has met other qualifications established by the Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners and the Board of Nursing.

ATTENTION:
Minnesota Law requires that any person who provides services that involve direct contact with patients and residents at a healthcare facility licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health have a background study conducted by the state. An individual who is disqualified from having direct patient contact as a result of the background study and whose disqualification is not set aside by the Commissioner of Health, will not be permitted to participate in a clinical placement in a Minnesota licensed healthcare facility. The College will withdraw any student who is disqualified by the Minnesota Department of Health. The student is responsible for requesting the Commissioner to reconsider the disqualification.
